Forest, however, will be out to spoil the mood as they bid to collect their first points under Sabri Lamouchi following a 2-1 defeat at home to West Brom on the opening weekend.

Leeds came so close go reaching the Premier League last season, sitting top of the table for much of the campaign but eventually having to settle for a place in the play-offs, where they were beaten by Derby.

It’s been something of a strange couple of months for Leeds since, with key defender Pontus Jansson sold to league rivals Brentford, striker Kemar Roofe moving to Anderlecht and goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell joining Burnley.

The White, though, did wrap up loan deals for exciting Arsenal youngster Eddie Nketiah, as well as Ben White, Helder Costa and Jack Clarke, who returned to Elland Road for the season after completing a permanent move to Tottenham, while Jack Harrison has also returned on a temporary basis after his successful spell last season.

But the biggest boost for Leeds was keeping hold of head coach Bielsa.

Forest finished ninth last season but ditched Martin O’Neill for Lamouchi just six months in his reign – their 13th full-time boss in just over eight years.

They have made 12 signings this summer as they look to mount a promotion charge of their own, with Brice Samba, Chema Rodriguez, Carl Jenkinson and John Bostock among the players to arrive late in the window.

What the managers say

Marcelo Bielsa (Leeds)

“This summer market has been a period of high working time. The club needs some money to solve the FFP situation. Then the club gets this objective. We have sold or moved 25 players. This is something very important for the club and its economical situation. The players continuing with the club are those who can participate. The work that came from the people who have to do this work in the club was an important job.

“Playing in Elland Road, I want to link this feeling with the future, not with the past. We have received a lot from our fans. Of course, the players feel this support at Elland Road. In all the games we had the support of our fans. Playing in Elland Road always is an important date for our team.”

Sabri Lamouchi (Nottingham Forest)

“The West Brom result impacted on the players a little bit but I’m asking them to keep their confidence up because I know they can play as well as they did in the first ten minutes. That is why I want players here with personality and experience because we will go through tough times but it is how we respond to those tough times that is important.

“We know that Leeds have a fantastic manager who plays with an excellent philosophy and we know that it will be a very intense atmosphere at Elland Road. They have more or less the same squad which reached the play-offs last season so we know how difficult a game it will be.

“I’m happy because the transfer window is finished so we can focus now on the players we have. We’ve changed a lot of players and the club has done the maximum to satisfy all of my requests so now we are looking forward to working with our players.

“All the players are working in a really professional way and in a really good atmosphere at the training ground. Last week was a strange one for me because we had a fantastic week and then we had a bad result in the first game which I don’t really think we deserved.

“We haven’t had a training session with all of our new players involved so I’m looking forward to getting everyone involved. We have a very difficult game at Leeds so all of our focus needs to go on that game and to try and achieve a good result.”
