Liverpool are looking for their first piece of silverware this season as they prepare to take on Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup.

The Reds return to Istanbul as European champions 14 years on from their incredible Champions League victory in 2005.

The match in Turkey kicks off at 8pm, with commentary live on talkSPORT, in what will be the first all-English match for the trophy.

It is the sixth time Liverpool have featured in the Super Cup and are looking to win it for the fourth time.

If Liverpool were to do so, then they would join Real Madrid on four Super Cups and be just one behind Barcelona and AC Milan.

The Reds won the competition in 1977 and 2005 as European champions when they beat Hamburg and CSKA Moscow respectively.

They also won it as UEFA Cup holders in 2001 when they had a victory over Bayern Munich.

Liverpool’s defeats came in 1978 and 1984 when they lost to Anderlecht and Juventus.

Chelsea will make their fourth Super Cup appearance but so far only have one victory to their name, which was a 1-0 victory against Real Madrid in 1998.

They were beaten in 2012 and 2013 to Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich respectively. Blues manager Frank Lampard was captain of the side for both of those defeats.
