An error in Chelsea’s pre-match Super Cup programme saw David Luiz labelled a ‘hugely important player’ by manager Frank Lampard.
However, prior to the showpiece in Istanbul, where Chelsea were defeated 5-4 on penalties following a thrilling 2-2 draw, Lampard praised the Brazilian, hailing him as a crucial member of his squad for the upcoming season along with captain Cesar Azpilicueta.
Luiz is yet to appear for Arsenal following his £8million move across London, having been left on the bench for their Premier League opening-day victory over Newcastle.
Following Chelsea’s defeat to Liverpool, Lampard admitted he was a terrible loser but praised his side’s performance in the match.
He said: “I’m the worst loser in the world and I hate it. The way they played, the spirit, the desire, the quality.
“I know we lost and that’s it but (we take) confidence for the season. We have got real quality in there. Sometimes football is little moments of luck.
“I don’t want to look like I’m moaning but it clearly affects preparation, it’s unfortunate they have two day extra recovery.
“I respect Liverpool, but I felt we were the stronger team. I’m a terrible loser but the feeling for me is one of pride.
“If we keep playing like that then we’ll be okay. I saw a lot of things I want to see.”
