Manchester United were warned off from signing Bruno Fernandes after question marks were raised over his ability.

The Red Devils had been chasing the attacking midfielder all summer and appeared to be closing in on a deal to land him from Sporting Lisbon.

The 24-year-old had also been attracting interest from Liverpool and Tottenham and was expected to complete a £64million switch to United.

However, it has now emerged scouts were not convinced by his decision-making on the ball.

According to the Daily Mail, those sent to watch Fernandes did not feel he was suitable for the way Ole Gunnar Solskjaer likes to play, as he gives away possession too often.

Fernandes was viewed as a replacement for Paul Pogba, who still has doubts surrounding his future and is linked with Real Madrid, despite starring in the 4-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday.

United were busy in the transfer window, spending £145million on new players including defenders Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, as well as Welsh winger Daniel James.
