The Liverpool boss explained the thinking behind his casual matchday attire in an exclusive interview with Reshmin Chowdhury ahead of his side’s clash with Newcastle on Saturday, which is live on talkSPORT.

“I have a suit for weddings, funerals and if somebody tells me I have to wear a suit. For me it’s not ideal,” he said.

“I have no reason to wear one. I don’t feel comfortable in it and I cannot breathe properly.

“I don’t want to have to think about my outfit before a game, so I’m really happy that the kitman can give me something that I can jump into.”

“I have a suit for weddings, funerals & if someone tells me I must wear it.” 😂

“When I started in the CL I did it as someone said it’s a duty!”

“I don’t want to look good, my team should look good.”

Klopp did wear a suit on occasions during his stint at Borussia Dortmund, as well as in the Europa League during his first season at Liverpool – 2015/16 – but maintains there will not be a repeat of that in the future.

“When I first started in the Champions League I wore them because I was told by somebody it was a duty,” he added.

“But from the first time I saw another manager next to me not wearing a suit, I was done.
