Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has equalled an achievement set by Anfield favourite Rafa Benitez by picking up his second consecutive Premier League Manager of the Month award.

Klopp, who has now won the accolade on five occasions, has overseen a perfect start to the 2019/20 season with the Reds winning all eight of their games.

The latest achievement is another reason for Klopp to smile after recently celebrating his four-year anniversary on Merseyside.

Klopp is the first Liverpool manager to achieve the feat since Benitez, who like his German counterpart also delivered Champions League glory at Anfield.

In fact Benitez picked up the back-to-back awards – in November and December 2005 – just a matter of months after he led his side to that historic victory in Istanbul.

Klopp has replicated that too, having steered the Reds to a sixth European crown with a 2-0 win against Tottenham in Madrid in June.

Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers had a run of 10 straight wins at the beginning of 2014, but that was unable to land him back-to-back Manager of the Month accolades.

Liverpool will be looking to continue their 100 per cent start to the season when they travel to struggling Manchester United next weekend, already holding a eight-point lead over title rivals Manchester City.

The Reds are on a run of 17 Premier League victories, bettered only by City’s sequence of 18 wins between August and December 2017.
