Manchester United fear midfielder Paul Pogba will be sidelined until at least the end of October with a foot injury, reports claim.

The Frenchman is therefore almost certain to miss next Sunday’s crunch showdown with Liverpool at Old Trafford.

The latest news is a huge blow to United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has come under increased scrutiny after overseeing the club’s worst start to a season in 30 years.

Pogba is currently in Dubai participating in a warm weather rehabilitation programme in an attempt to speeden up his return from injury.

The 26-year-old posted a video of himself in the Middle East on Friday completing a battle rope session with the message: “Almost there”.

But according to the Mail, United medics are not anticipating a imminent return, with Pogba at least a few more weeks away from getting back to full fitness.

Meanwhile, United legend Rio Ferdinand has called for his former team-mate Solskjaer to be given more time at the helm to turn around the club’s fortunes – insisting the Norwegian needs another transfer window.

“I don’t think this is the time for knee-jerk reactions,” he told talkSPORT.

“When you’re giving someone millions of pounds to spend money on to affect the squad, it doesn’t seem right to change that right away.

“It’s just throwing another regime out of the window and starting again and that’s happened far too often in recent years at United because of results and what not.

“There’s been a change in the recruitment, where they’ve brought young, British players into the club, which is a shift from previous years.

“Time is not something that is afforded to many people in the game, but Ole probably needs another window to get more people in, shuffle the pack and get more out.

“It’s only then you can really start to judge him in my opinion.”
